"Look at me!"

There is something in that childhood exclamation "Look at me, look at me," that is hardwired in the human heart, a longing to be seen and a thirst for approval and to be applauded. I think every single one of us comes out of the womb looking for somebody who's looking for us.
And this doesn't go away when we exit preschool. We all crave approval, hence Jesus' warning "Be careful, not do good things just to be noticed and rewarded by people..."
